Survivalist: Invisible Strain - An Open-World Colony-Building Sim in the Zombie Apocalypse

Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a unique open-world colony-building simulation game set in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. It has been compared to popular games such as State of Decay, Project Zomboid, Rimworld, Kenshi, and even "The Sims but with zombies". Unlike other survival games, this game not only focuses on the physical aspects of survival, but also on the characters and their relationships.

Interact with Living Characters

In this game, you have the ability to talk to anyone you encounter. Each living character in the world has a name and a unique personality. They will remember your actions and their memories will affect their mood and opinion of you. These characters have their own lives, including activities such as gossiping, eating, sleeping, keeping warm, working, and fighting. Some may even offer you quests, but it is up to you to decide how or if you want to complete them. You can use negotiation, friendship, violence, stealth, or trickery to achieve your objectives.

Recruit Survivors

In Survivalist: Invisible Strain, you have the ability to recruit other survivors to join your community. You can do this by making them like you, respect you, or fear you. As you recruit more followers, you will need to provide them with basic necessities such as a place to sleep, a steady food source, a fire for warmth, and walls for protection against enemies. It is important to manage their morale and relationships, as they may become depressed or start fighting with each other. However, they may also make up and even want to hang out or chat with you.

Gather Resources and Build Your Settlement

As you explore the abandoned towns scattered throughout the map, you can chop down trees, mine rocks, and search for other resources. You can also set traps for enemies or rabbits, hunt deer, keep chickens, grow crops, or take more desperate measures if you are really hungry. You can assign roles to your community members, such as farmer, chef, or arrow crafter. Over time, you can build a well-defended and self-sufficient settlement that even produces its own bullets.

Create Your Own Character

At the start of the game, you have the option to customize your character's appearance, clothing, equipment, skills, and personality. Different dialogue options will be available based on your character's traits.

Fight for Survival

The gameplay in Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a combination of third-person action and real-time strategy. You can directly control each character in the third-person action view, or switch to an overhead view to assign orders. You can target specific body parts of your enemies, such as their legs to slow them down or their heads for massive damage. You can also dodge or block in melee combat, just like your enemies. Each character has their own unique skill set and can level up to improve their archery, firearms, or hand-to-hand combat abilities. Eating better food can also improve your constitution, making you more likely to survive a fight.

Survive by Any Means Necessary

In this game, you can use various tactics to survive, including sneaking up on enemies and assassinating them, knocking them out and stealing their belongings, or throwing distractions such as bottles or chunks of meat to lure zombies away. You can also wear camouflaged clothing to boost your stealth skill. However, be aware that animals and zombies have a keen sense of smell, so make sure to check the wind direction. You can also order your community to attack enemies together or send one person to act as a lone assassin. Fight using melee weapons, bows and arrows, guns, explosives, and even infected weapons. You can also repair vehicles and use them to run over your enemies.

Beware of the Invisible Strain

One of the biggest threats in Survivalist: Invisible Strain is the mysterious new strain of the zombie virus known as the Invisible Strain. Infected individuals may seem normal as they infiltrate your group and spread the virus, until one day they turn on you.

Game Modes

Story Mode

The story mode introduces you to the game world and mechanics through a hand-crafted story. You have come to Moose Valley in search of safety, but everything is falling apart. Can you hold a settlement together? This is the sequel to the original Survivalist game, but you do not need to have played it to understand what is going on.

Sandbox Mode

In this mode, you will experience a randomly generated world with a loose story and quests that will vary in each playthrough. Your goal is to find a new home and build a community in the post-apocalyptic wilderness.

Steam Workshop

Survivalist: Invisible Strain has an active modding community with a variety of gameplay mods and all-new stories to explore.

Play with Friends

You can also team up with up to four friends in online co-op mode, available in all game modes.
