About the game

Rise of Piracy puts a heavy emphasis on progression and growth. As you embark on your journey, you will start with a small vessel and a limited amount of money. To build your economic power and connections with other factions, you can complete missions and search for treasure. You can also choose to fight, boarding or sinking other ships for loot. As you progress, you can expand your fleet of ships and their crews to take on more difficult tasks such as capturing islands of various sizes and compositions. You can also battle large colonial fleets in grand scale naval warfare, hunt pirates, search for long lost treasures, and explore mysterious lands filled with danger.

Everything in Rise of Piracy is carefully crafted and not procedurally generated. The environments and buildings are fully destructible, allowing you to level an island from afar with your fleet. You can talk to mayors of settlements and captains of fleets to uncover hidden lands, or find them yourself through exploration and investigation. Piracy is not mandatory; you can also trade with over 200 commodities found around the world. Ports have specialized trading routes and merchants to trade with, and you can add trading ships to your fleet to maximize your transportation. You can also build relationships with other factions to increase your trading efficiency. War, hunting bounties, and seeking hidden treasures are other ways to build your bank.

A deep diplomacy system allows relationships to grow between all factions. You can engage in diplomacy with every faction you meet. AI factions will go to war with each other and their assets will change hands, which can affect your play-style, increasing warship activity and blocking trade routes. You can fill your fleet with over 30 playable ships from 1600 - 1900, from the light and fast Carousel to the 120 Gun ship of the Line. Taverns provide a great place to hire crewmen for your fleet, and you can fill your ships with specialized crew to board hostile ships or invade and capture islands to secure passive income. As you become more powerful, the campaign difficulty will increase and remain challenging. You can also take part in team or individual combat in one of the arenas, using ships with varying strengths and weaknesses to sink your enemies.
