About the game
- In High and Dry you are tasked with commanding a pirate ship, attempting to prepare for a showdown with Davey Jones! You had a pact with him long ago and soon he will come to collect his end of the bargain, will you go down without putting up a fight? As the clock ticks down you can make your ship and crew stronger, but you only have a limited amount of time. Where will you focus your resources, towards more firepower to take out your enemies? Or maybe a larger crew to man the sails and make repairs, or even buy some abilities like mortars to push away your adversaries and dashes to help you dodge attacks!
- Each time you play, certain elements of the game will be randomly generated so that each playthrough is unique, although some things will remain the same which allows you to learn as you play to eventually beat the game.
- Throughout the ocean, many text-based encounters await you, some leading to combat and others not so much. What decisions will you make?
- You will have to make tough choices, you only have a limited amount of time before Davey comes for your soul, so you must choose wisely. More crew means more people manning the cannons, or more working the sails which makes your ship move much faster and be harder to hit. Having lots of resources is beneficial but they will slow you down and reduce your chance to evade enemy shots. Powerful weapon combinations can take down enemy ships quickly, but if you can't take a volley of hits what good does it do you?
- During combat you will have to make some decisions as well. Having someone on sails is important or your ship will move slowly and your chance to dodge enemy shots will be much lower but of course you need sailors manning the cannons to attack your enemies. If your ship has some holes in it who do you send down to make the repairs? Or do you? Cannons can be destroyed and need repairs but sailors can take damage as well and sailors gain experience throughout a play through making some better at certain tasks than others. Do you want to play offensively or defensively?
