About the game
In December 1944, the German Fifth Panzer Army crossed into Belgium with the objective of reaching the Meuse river, located 100 kilometres to the west. In order to meet the timetable, the road network around Bastogne and Wiltz had to be cleared and maintained. On the sixth day, the Second Panzer Division and Panzer Division Lehr were released to continue the advance. In response, General Eisenhower ordered the 101st Airborne Division, the Screaming Eagles, to collect all their men on leave in Paris and drive them to the vital crossroads of Bastogne. He also ordered General Patton to turn his Third Army due north to cut into the German thrust. Bastogne became the focal point of the German's attempt. The Bastogne Breakout game is a Hex, Counter and Card game that recreates the nine days of battle from December 16th to 25th. Units are regiments and battalions, with each hex representing a mile or 1.6 Km. Players can play both sides, called Hot Seat or play the Germans against the Allied AI, and can choose from three scenarios: the introductory Bastogne Breakout scenario, the Second Panzer Goes West scenario, and the Bastogne Breakout scenario, where both the Second Panzer and Panzer Lehr must exit. Cards are chosen at the start to Blow bridges, have Otto Skorzeny cut demolition wires, cause Fritz Bayelien to fall in love and pray for good weather among other things.Game requirements
