VRG: A Unique Blend of Modern and Retro FPS

VRG is not your typical first-person shooter. It combines elements of both modern and retro shooters, creating a unique gaming experience. With six different weapons and gadgets at your disposal, you'll have plenty of options for taking down your enemies. But don't expect to find modern features like ADS, reloading, or double jumping in this game. Instead, VRG focuses on classic control mechanics such as sprinting, tactical sprinting, wall-running, leaning, and sliding.

However, the game's progression follows a more traditional format, with episodic levels and no overarching storyline. Each episode consists of five levels and one secret level, providing plenty of challenges for players to overcome.

Combo System for Classic Controls

One of the unique features of VRG is its combo system. By defeating enemies in a row, you can earn combos that increase your rank. There are seven ranks in total, and as you climb higher, you'll notice improvements in your gameplay. Your reticle will contract, recoil will decrease, and your movement speed will become more classic-like. This brings you closer to the classic operation mode, but it also comes with a catch. The higher your rank, the faster your combo gauge will decrease, making it more challenging to maintain the buff. If you manage to reach the highest rank, "SSS," you'll even experience slow motion gameplay.

Recover Health with Enemy Gibs

In VRG, the means of recovery is a bit unconventional. Instead of health packs or potions, you can regain health and combo gauge by consuming the gib that scatters when you defeat an enemy. The more combo ranks you earn, the more gib you'll have access to. This creates a strategic element to the game, as you'll need to balance your attacks to maintain your health and combo gauge.

Weapon Ammo Shop

Need to stock up on weapons and ammunition? Look no further than the vending machines in VRG. You can purchase these items using "Meat mileage points," which you accumulate by eating meat pieces. The prices may be steep at first, but as you continue to buy from the vending machines, your membership rank will increase, allowing you to buy weapons and ammo at a discounted price.

Dual Wild System for Versatile Combat

The dual wild system in VRG allows for versatile combat options. You can quickly switch between two-handed weapons, and even combine them for unique combinations. Simply hold down the weapon key or select the weapon on the weapon wheel and click the corresponding mouse button for your desired arm.

Custom Engine with Raycasting Rendering

The custom engine used in VRG utilizes GPU-based raycasting for all voxels, billboards, shadows, bumps, and reflections. This creates a unique visual style reminiscent of the Wolfenstein3D era of FPS games. All textures in the game are 64x64 pixels with no translucency, except for the UI. This is an experiment to see how far raycasting can take us in terms of graphics and gameplay.
