Single Play: An Extreme Stealth Challenge

While UNDERWARD is primarily designed for co-op play, it is also playable in single player mode. However, be warned that single play is an ultra-high-difficulty mode where getting caught by enemies means instant game over. This mode includes many trial-and-error challenges, so players must be prepared to learn through death and keep progressing.

In single player mode, players do not have the ability to perform chained carries, making it necessary to carefully transport the cargo while constantly fearing an enemy ambush. This adds to the intense and thrilling experience of the game. Players must avoid detection, watch out for traps, and proceed with extra caution. While the gameplay differs significantly from multiplayer, this mode is perfect for players seeking a truly spine-chilling horror experience.

Explore and Carry the "TEST-SUBJECT" Monsters

In UNDERWARD, players must explore the depths of the abandoned hospital ward and carry the "TEST-SUBJECT" monsters to the elevator. Once they exit the elevator, they must scour the floor for more "TEST-SUBJECTS". However, players must be cautious as traps and dangers are lurking everywhere. Some areas and mechanisms can only be accessed by cooperating with teammates, making it best to avoid venturing alone if possible.

Players may also find useful tools left behind in the area. It is important to check lockers, shelves, and any other hiding spots for gear. With luck, players may even find highly advanced equipment.

Encounter Unknown Enemies

During the search for "TEST-SUBJECTS", players may encounter unknown enemies. These enemies are attracted to noise, so players must stay cautious. If they hide quietly, they might pass without noticing. Players must adapt to the situation as needed. However, if they get spotted, they must run as fast as they can and throw items at the enemies to fend them off.

If a teammate gets taken down, there is still hope for rescue. The teammate's location will be displayed on the screen, so players must act quickly and stay calm. Minimizing casualties will strengthen the team bond. However, the window for rescue is shrinking by the second.

Carry the "TEST-SUBJECT" Monsters to Safety

Once a "TEST-SUBJECT" is found, players must carry it to the elevator with all their might. However, carrying the capsule creates a lot of noise, attracting enemies. Players must stay vigilant. While a single investigator cannot handle the heavy capsule alone, they can perform a "Connected Carry" system with multiple players to move it faster than the enemies can catch up.

However, if teamwork falters, it could mean a one-way ticket to the afterlife. Each "TEST-SUBJECT" has a different value, and the team must retrieve the most valuable one possible. Once the recovery quota is met, players must proceed with the verification of the "TEST-SUBJECTS". The elevator will be operated to the next floor, and investigators should close the door and wait inside.
