My name is Max, and I am the solo indie developer behind Legends of Dionysos. A few years ago, I left my day job to pursue my childhood dream of making games. I converted an old ambulance into my cozy living and workspace, which I fondly call "The Gaming Van." During the summers, I retreated into nature to develop my first commercial game, Legends of Dionysos. After three years of hard work, I am excited to finally release the game.

The Inspiration Behind Legends of Dionysos

As a kid, I always dreamed of a game that combined the speed and excitement of beat 'em ups with the depth and character progression of RPGs. I grew up playing classics like Street Fighter, Metal Slug, Sonic, and Super Mario, but I also had a soft spot for RPGs like Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, and Diablo. Legends of Dionysos is my take on blending the best of both worlds.

The combat system in Legends of Dionysos is unique, with players not being restricted to specific classes. Instead, your skill set dynamically adjusts based on the weapon you wield. This allows for fluid combat and strategic weapon swapping to adapt to different situations. The attribute system is also different, with all stats benefiting the player regardless of their chosen weapon.

Arena Events: A Test of Skill and a Chance for Rewards

In Legends of Dionysos, players can also participate in arena events for an extra challenge and exciting rewards. These events work similarly to the keystone system in Diablo. By surviving waves of enemies and defeating a boss, players can earn guaranteed weapon drops of varying quality. These arenas can be replayed on different difficulty levels, with higher levels offering more difficult enemies and bosses, but also better loot, gold, and experience.

Unleash Your Creativity with Character Customization

While character customization is not common in platformers, I wanted to add it to Legends of Dionysos to add depth and uniqueness to each playthrough. Players can choose between two playable species, humans and cats, and have a variety of hair and body options to create colorful and funny-looking characters.

For the Hardcore Gamers: Hardcore and Speedrun Modes

Legends of Dionysos is designed with hardcore gamers in mind. For an extra challenge, players can choose to play in hardcore mode, where death is permanent. There is also a built-in timer and local highscore board for those who want to test their speedrunning skills.
