Kagami: An Odyssey in Japanese Language Learning
Are you ready for a fun and exciting way to learn Japanese? Look no further than Kagami - the top down RPG-Lite game that will take you on an adventure through the Japanese language!
Join our protagonist as they explore the world, interact with objects to find vocabulary words, play mini-games, and use their newly learned words to gain an advantage in battles against enemies. But be warned, you may also uncover mysteries, learn more than you ever expected, and become emotionally attached to some of the characters you meet along the way.
Speaking of characters, who is that cute little guy running around? You'll have to play to find out!
Gameplay
In Kagami, you'll fight alongside your party members against monsters inspired by Yokai from Japanese folklore. Level up your physical and magical combat skills to deal devastating damage to your foes in classic turn-based RPG style.
But don't worry if you're new to learning Japanese - the game starts by teaching you the basics of Hiragana and Katakana, two of the alphabets used in the Japanese language. And with your trusty Game-Buddy by your side, you'll have access to all the vocabulary words you collect to study outside of battle. Game-Buddy also serves as your inventory manager and game saver, and even has a reference guide with visual mnemonics and sound clips to help you remember the kana.
Professional Voice Acting
Speaking of sound clips, all of the kana, vocabulary, and phrases in the game are voiced by professional voice over artist Ko Takehiro. So not only will you see the words, but you'll also hear them pronounced by a native speaker.
Playable on Steamdeck
And the best part? Kagami is also playable on the Steamdeck, so you can continue your language learning journey on the go!
Warning: No Romaji
One thing to note - we do not use romaji in this game. So if you want to succeed, you'll need to learn how to read Hiragana and Katakana. But don't worry, we provide all the resources you need to learn, and we believe that with determination and practice, anyone can succeed in learning Japanese.
