Fari Stjornu: A Unique Sailing, Fighting, and Trading Game

Fari Stjornu is not your average role playing game. It combines the elements of sailing, fighting, and trading to create a one-of-a-kind gaming experience. As a simple RPG, it offers features such as level up and experience, loot and coins. I created this game as a hobby after playing all the major role playing games, and it is mainly inspired by the player-made maps in real-time strategy editors.

Embark on an Adventure

The game starts with you washed ashore on an island, where you must grab a weapon to begin your role playing journey. Fari Stjornu uses a three-ability combat system that can be played on almost any mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel button. The keyboard controls are also simple, with only a dozen buttons to remember. For those who prefer a gamepad, Fari Stjornu also functions with one.

Learn the Controls

The controls are clearly written in the game and can be found in the menu screen. If you need more guidance, the game manual can be accessed from the main menu under "Options" and "How to Play". Additionally, the game automatically saves your progress when you leave the game world and return to the main menu.

Create Your Character

Before you begin your adventure, you must first create a character in the character creator menu. Once your character is ready, you can start the game on the first island and obtain a ship to explore the open world of Fari Stjornu.

Exciting Updates Ahead

As the game continues to grow, new updates will be added in the future. These updates may include fishing, AI companions, new maps with new islands, new gear and weapons, new boats, and even the ability to own a house in the game. Compatible with Steam Deck

Fari Stjornu is also compatible with Steam Deck. Simply select "Proton" in the game's properties under "Compatibility" or make sure your Steam Deck is updated. Please note that the Unity service cloud save function only works with an Apple ID or Unity Player ID, and not with Google sign-in unless you are using a secure browser (such as Steam Deck's desktop mode). If you choose to use an Apple ID in the Steam Deck web browser, you must tap the hidden box directly beneath the email text box after entering your email.

Cloud Save Functionality

The cloud save function of this game works as intended on Windows desktops and offers all the options for signing in to Unity Cloud Save. However, it is not required to have a Unity cloud save account as the game can also save data to a local machine terminal.

Fari Stjornu has grown significantly since its initial release. It now includes two new quadrants from the original game, making the file size increase from 250MB to 750MB. The game also features a map to help players navigate, as well as a mini RTS game mode that uses the same models as the RPG story mode. This mini game offers a fun eagle eye view of the game. Additionally, there is now a second optional starting spawn zone for those who want to change the intro. However, this second sandbox is still part of the overall FARI STJORNU world and can be accessed from the original mode by sailing to it. The game still offers full controller support, making it easy to play from the couch. The UI has also been optimized for gamepad use.
