Akhena: Age of Evil

Akhena: Age of Evil is a vast open-world JRPG with a western "CRPG" atmosphere and story. The game's primary focus is on exploration, as players navigate a dangerous world with a rich history. The game also features a moderate amount of magic, while still maintaining a gritty and realistic tone.

The story and characters draw inspiration from classic books such as A Song of Ice and Fire and The First Law series. Morality is portrayed as nuanced and influenced by cultural bias, with "evil" often being a result of duty, entitlement, or misguided good intentions.

Gameplay

Akhena's history is marked by cultural distrust and racism, with the Free War leading to the downfall of the ancient kingdoms. For over 1000 years, the powerful Kitmera (anthropomorphic felines) have ruled over the continent. According to the sacred religious texts known as the Word of God, the Kitmera and their noble allies are the chosen guardians of the continent and its harmera (human-like) inhabitants. The Kitmera rule with a firm but compassionate hand, but they struggle with the decision of whether to outlaw the seditious religions that challenge their authority.

The game features 36 primary playable characters, with six classes available for each of the three harmera races and both genders. Additionally, there are over 70 recruitable characters as part of the four main quest lines. In the early access version, only a few recruitable characters are available, but all main characters are ready to play.

Factions

Akhena features seven factions, including four main Kitmera kingdoms ruled by the nobility. Each kingdom has its own independent crime and reputation system. There are also three underground factions operating within and beyond the kingdoms. Note: during early access, only the Aeland Kingdom is accessible.

Items

The game boasts over 400 base gear items, including 160+ weapons, 140+ armors, and 100+ jewelry items. These items have randomly generated effects, and their rarity scales with the player's level.

Enemies

Players will encounter over 80 unique enemies, with 60 of them being able to be tamed or controlled with the appropriate magic. There are also 16 rare and elusive enemies to discover. Enemy levels will scale with the player's level.

Consumables

Akhena features 46 consumable items, which can be found scattered throughout the world. Players can also craft food and potions at kitchens and apothecary cauldrons, respectively.

Thievery Mechanics

The game includes thievery mechanics such as lockpicking, pickpocketing, and sneaking.

Environmental Effects

The day/night system in Akhena has gameplay implications, and players will also experience biome-affected weather effects.
