Block Words: Can You Keep Up?
Blocks of letters are constantly falling down in this fast-paced word game. Your goal is to form words quickly enough to prevent the board from filling up and to beat your high score.
Valid Words
Words must be at least 4 letters long and can be up to 15 letters maximum. They can be spelled vertically or horizontally. With over 70,000 valid words, including proper nouns and names, the possibilities are endless.
Gameplay
At the start of each game, the first four blocks to appear are always "W", "O", "R", and "D". The board begins with only 4 columns, but when you form a word that spans all columns, the board grows 1 column wider. As the board expands, there are more opportunities for 2 or 3 blocks to spawn instead of just one.
Scoring
Less common letters are worth more points, so use them wisely. Longer words (more than 4 letters) also award a bonus that increases with the word's size. Cascades, which occur when blocks are cleared and new ones fall down, also earn a bonus. Forming a word that spans all columns of the board also grants a bonus that grows with the board's size. And if a single letter can form a valid word both vertically and horizontally, you'll receive a bonus based on the letter's rarity.
Bonus Blocks
There are special blocks that can help you earn even more points:
- Wildcard: When this block lands, it will try every letter (starting with the highest point value) to see if a valid word can be formed. If no letter works, a random one will be chosen.
- Clear Column: This block clears all the letters in the column it lands in, earning you points for each one.
- Clear Row: Similar to the Clear Column block, this one clears all the letters in the row it lands in.
- Clear Spaces: This block clears all the space blocks on the board, giving you points for each one.
- Clear Grid: The ultimate bonus block, this one clears all the blocks on the board and awards points for each letter cleared.
