In the years before Japan went to war and the world went to hell, there was a small hamlet known as Hitogata. The residents of this village were known for their ancient custom of worshiping clay dolls. However, one night during their festival, a woman was murdered and the people believed it to be a curse from their god for trying to take its power into their own hands.
Fast forward to December 1957, nearly two years after the kidnapping of Toko Kuchiki from her hospital room. Reiji Tokisaka, a private detective and the returning protagonist from The Shell Part I: Inferno, is still searching for the missing girl. His little sister Yukari saves a man from suicide, but little do they know that this man is a victim of the curse's return. Reiji must step in to break the cycle of obsession that has plagued the village for years, all while struggling with his own obsession with Toko.
Meanwhile, a cult rises from the ashes after six years of silence. But what are their plans? Curses may be the devices of the gods, but it's always human hands that carry their knives.
Characters:
Reiji Tokisaka (Voice: Waruta Higeuchi)
A private detective and the returning protagonist from The Shell Part I: Inferno. Reiji is known for being lazy and sloppy in his personal life, but he takes his work very seriously. After losing his fiancée while working a case, he quit the police force to become a PI. He currently lives with his sister Yukari and continues to search for the missing girl from the Girl in Shell case.
Tomoyuki Masaki (Voice: Masato Kawamura)
Another protagonist, Tomoyuki is a jobless man who was saved from suicide by Yukari in Inokashira Park. After leaving the hospital, he is temporarily employed as an assistant at the Tokisaka Detective Agency. Due to his suicide attempt, he has lost some use of his left hand.
Yukiko Kayahara (Voice: Sara Ayumi)
A newly transferred student at Oba Girls' Academy, Yukiko is quiet and a little awkward, causing her to avoid others. However, she is slowly opening up thanks to the warm welcome from Yukari and her friends.
Yukari Tokisaka (Voice: Rino Kawashima)
Reiji's perfect little sister, Yukari is flexible and tolerant, but also has a disturbing fondness for insects. She is a proud member of the Art Club and has moved up a year since The Shell Part I.
Kyoko Hazuki (Voice: Kaname Yuzuki)
The owner of the Moon World café and a childhood friend of Reiji's. She is always supportive and personable, and their relationship has grown beyond just friendship.
Michiru Shirosaki (Voice: Honoka Imuraya)

The next proprietress of the Futami Inn, Yuu was raised by her grandmother after her parents passed away. She is dutiful, serious, and difficult to please, making her the most mature of her friend group.
Ayato Hinagami (Voice: Tomokazu Otosaka)
The grandson of Hidetomi Hinagami, the absolute authority in Hitogata, and the older twin brother of Karen. Ayato has always been under pressure due to his prestigious family and spends most of his time painting alone.
Naori Kuroya (Voice: Chugo Mayama)
A cousin and childhood friend of Karen and Ayato, Naori is set to inherit his father's clinic and is studying to become a doctor. He has a unique way of thinking and is the one who came up with his friends' nicknames.
